The San Diego County Fair Photography Contest 2019

This year I really wanted to enter into the San Diego County Fair’s Photography Exhibit. It was really important to me to focus on entering something locally. I felt like I needed some kind of confirmation that I deserved to have a space too in photography. I guess I just really needed validation from local peer judges. I entered 7 images and at $20 an entry it was hard to pick from the pile. Here are the 7 submission photos.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Escape to the Coast

Winter was coming and the holiday season was around the corner. I knew that after the New Year I was going to need something to refresh my perspective on my creativity. I was talking to a friend and she mentioned going to Cannon Beach, Oregon for a meet-up with other creatives. I immediately went online to book my flight and Air B&B.

Let me tell ya the Escape to the Coast meet up was pretty amazing. . The Pacific Northwest has a magical, mysterious energy. It takes some getting used to looking thru the thick of the trees but around every bend there was something special to see.

Even more special were the people I met and the newfound friendships fostered. Before I went on this trip I was having a motherhood crisis. My youngest goes into Kinder next year and I struggled with losing my little muse. I’m always so used to having a child connected to my hip, I was afraid of losing that crutch of having company and not being alone. It was an interesting time and this escape was just what I needed to reset. I learned that there is so much growth to be had from this for both my daughter and I. This was a time for her to learn how to foster friendships, learn her alphabet and explore the world without me next to her. And the same goes for me. To learn how to face the world and explore what I am capable of without a child connected to my hip. This was going to be a time for both of us to blossom. Anyhow this trip showed me a lot of what I have to look forward to .

I’m STOKED as shit to share them here with you.

Rios Family

The Month of May was a special time in the church for many families. I had the chance to photograph the Rios Family. They were so lovely. Gorgeous husband and wife couple with three darling little girls. I photographed their family session and then also photographed their eldest daughter’s communion portraits. This was truly a joy to capture them being themselves. Happy and so in love with each other. I’m happy to share some of my favourites from each session.

Alison, Nathan & Paige

Making it a point to blog and share more of my work this year. This was a session gifted to this gorgeous mama by a couple of her girlfriends. I mean how rad is that?! And if you’re wondering if you can gift a session to someone, The answer is YES! We all need to celebrate ourselves and our special moments- SO.. hire me to document them for you! HAH! So, I chose this location because I loved the rocky coastline and it was close to the setting that I work with back home in Imperial Beach. It was a location in Orange County, that had crappy cell service and of course parking by any beach in California is the pits so by the time Alison found parking and located me on the beach at the bottom of this cliffside cove, we realized we had maybe about 15 minutes of sunlight and blue hour left. Looking back at these, It’s crazy to think that even in that little time we had together I scored some killer photographs. She later told me this was her first family session and well that just made my heart even more happy. Check out the gallery.

Golden Summer Bridal Shoot

This Summer I met some really friggin amazing photographers who were local to me at a workshop in Orange County. I thought it was going to be a regular group of photographers- NOPE! That day I made friends with a badass group of CREATIVES & HOLY SH*T- I was HOME.

Earlier in the summer my Instagram buddy, this badass creative mama- Amanda Canton, who lives in Orange County organized this siick Summer Bridal shoot and little did I know it would be the beginning to some really rad friendships. I don’t think they could possibly know how much each of them inspired me that day or how much each of them made me realize where my place was in photography. These guys would soon become my little photography family.

So back to that time, I called Sue with RootstoWillowSoulshine who at the time, I was just getting to know her and we reached out to another friend Leanna with LeAnna Azzolini Photography . We arrived to backside of the Newport bay area and there stood 3 stunning models. Sue and I looked at each other- SO STOKED! We totally knew right away we were going to have a rad time at this workshop.

THIS WORKSHOP SUCKS! bahaha the coolest hashtag ever to describe the meets up with these guys. AND HEEEYY OHH HEEYYY I got to meet Melissa Rey that day!! Who if you don’t know her, she is a badass creative photographer that makes no apologies for doing her own thang and just making art. I have been following her for a long time and was stoked she came down and hung out with us too! And you guys, I say you guys like there’s this infinite audience or something bahahhaha , YOU GUYS!!! I made some really great friends out of this and I cannot even begin to explain how FRIGGIN cool and laid back everyone was too!!! I met Fatima Elreda, Jasmine Jeanette, Phillippe Villarubia & Zalmy Berkowitz & If you aren’t familiar with their work, UM .. you really SHOULD be! I’ve linked their Instagram profiles so you can just stop your life and follow THEM ALL!

I like love these people- LONG TIME .. xo

Acevez Family

I honestly can’t believe I am just barely blogging this session. This was a session of one of my girlfriend’s who totally trusted me to document her gorgeous family. (Back when I was trying to “find my voice” or skills or whatever you wanna call it)

Haley is a local teacher, a loving mama, and seriously such a beautiful human. I met her years back waay before having kids and we were just grown ass kids being kids ourselves. Time’s a changed for us and now we are both happily married with kids and dogs connected to our hips … and you know what, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

On the day of their session it was very cold outside, & the wind was blowing super crazy. They were troopers marching up and down the beach with big, huge big smiles on their faces- UM.. how about this friggin “easy going” family session!!!

So let me just SPAM YO feed right now with some of their session. So many favorites were taken that day. I especially love the one of her husband, Aaron with his daughters. Just go & see what I mean :)
